Kampong Cham: Prime Minister Hun Sen will lead the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia-China Stung Trang-Krouch Chhmar Friendship Bridge together with Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian on Tuesday.
The inauguration will be held early morning at Stung Trang district in Kampong Cham province. The bridge is a new achievement of Cambodia and China’s friendship. It crosses the Mekong River connecting the provinces of Kampong Cham anda Tbong Khmum.
The Cambodia-China Stung Trang-Kroch Chhmar Friendship Bridge’s constructed started on 9 February 2018 with a budget of $57 million. The bridge starts at the bridge starts at km 58 + 200 on the west bank on Provincial Road No. 2714 at Boeung Deng village, Prek Kak commune, Stung Trang district, Kampong Cham province, connecting to the east bank of the Mekong River at Kdol Kandal village, Trea commune, Krouch Chhmar district, Tbong Khmum province.
The two-lane bridge has a length of 1,131 metres and width of 13.5 metres. The bridge and connecting road took 42 months to build by Shanghai Construction Company and its technical supervision by Guangzhou Wanan Technical Consulting Company.
At the same time, a groundbreaking ceremony will be conducted for the road construction of the National Road 71C (C) connecting Tbong district, Tbong Khmum province to Chamkar Leu district, Kampong Cham province. This road starts from km 154 + 700, National Road 7 located in Sralop commune, Tbong Khmum district, Tbong Khmum province, and ends at km 30 + 400, National Road No. 71 is located in Svay Teap commune, Chamkar Leu district, Kampong Cham province. It is expected to be completed in 42 months by the same Chinese construction companies.
Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport says that the Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge, Stung Trang-Krouch Chhmar" and National Road No. 71C are important strategic interconnection projects to connect trade activities and travel of people living in Kampong Cham and Tbong Khmum and related provinces such as Kampong Thom and Kratie. He says it will facilitate the transportation of seeds, crops, agricultural products and agro-industry faster, reduce costs and save time.
