Gang Crackdown Injured Three Police Personnel in Banteay Meanchey

Banteay Meanchey: The gang crackdown in Banteay Meanchey province has resulted to a conflict between authorities and gangsters on Saturday evening. Three police personnel were wounded when Thai and Cambodian gangs opened fire towards the officers. The move of the provincial armed forces in Poipet city was in response to public complaints near the border.

Banteay Meanchey Provincial Gendarmerie Commander General Born Bin has confirmed that their team was responding to complaints that there were attacks made by the group of gangsters causing public disorder. Residents at the scene have said that initially there was a dispute between Thais and Cambodians at the restaurant in Poipet City. Poipet City Armed Forces intervened to avoid commotion. But instead of abiding to the law enforcers, the Cambodian and Thai gangs have opened fire to the provincial armed forces.

General Born Bin says that the gangsters have been the subject of complaints by the residents. He says the groups were armed fired weapons at them which resulted to the injury of the three officers. The police force has returned fire and took control. Police have arrested 15 perpetrators while searching for the others.
