Cambodia Receiving Over Two Million Covid-19 Vaccines This Week

PHNOM PENH: More Covid-19 vaccines for Cambodia this week. Over 300 thousand doses of Astrazeneca have arrived in the kingdom on Monday evening thorugh the Covax mechanism. And on Wednesday, two million will arrive from China which will be personally received by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

On Monday evening, 324,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have arrived in Cambodia through the COVAX Facility mechanism.It was received by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, Youk Sambath, along with WHO Representative in Cambodia, Dr. Li Ailan. It’s the third time the Kingdom has received Astrazeneca vaccines as part of the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access, best known as Covax. Cambodia has so far obtained over 2.5 million doses of vaccines via COVAX Facility and a total of 6.6 million doses are expected to be given for Cambodia.

On Wednesday, more vaccines are scheduled to arrive in the kingdom. Youk Sambath says that Prime Minister Hun Sen will personally welcome at the Phnom Penh International the two million Covid-19 doses donated by the People’s Republic of China. The handover ceremony will also have the presence of Chinese Ambassador, Wang Wentian.

With the newly arrived vaccines, Cambodia has now some 38 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from purchases and donations, with China being the biggest donator of vaccines to Cambodia. As for today, the nation’s accelerated vaccination campaign has already fully inoculated more than 87% of the total 16 million population in Cambodia. Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, Youk Sambath has also added that Australia-donated vaccines are expected to arrive in Cambodia in December or early next year.
