INTERNATIONAL: Novak Djokovic has made history once again. The Serbian tennis player secured the year-end number one in the ATP Ranking for seventh time on Monday, after starting his ATP Finals campaign in Turin with a win.
The world number one bettered the mark set by 14-times Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras, who ended the year on top of the rankings from 1993-1998. He says is extremely happy and it is one of his biggest goals, to try to be number one and end the season as number one.
He has claimed that he is very grateful to be in the position and being able to surpass his childhood idol – Pete, who is also his role model.
Earlier the Serbian began his quest for a sixth title at the season-ending ATP Finals with a 7-6(4) 6-2 victory over Norway's Casper Ruud.
