MND Prepares Second Phase of the Gender Mainstreaming Strategy to Benefit Female Soldiers

PHNOM PENH: Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Permanent Deputy Chief of the Gender Working Group of the Ministry of National Defense General Mey Mondary has announced that the Ministry of National Defense has been preparing the second phase of the Ministry of National Defense Gender Mainstreaming Strategic Plan 2022-2027, with the introduction of new strategies to address the challenges facing female soldiers.

This statement was made by General Mey Mondary on the occasion of her participation as High Representative of Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense and Chair of the Gender Working Group of the Ministry of National Defense Ms. Dam Daryny , at the 5th Gender Review Workshop of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. 2017-2021 and the direction of implementation this Wednesday morning at the meeting hall of the National Defense University, with the participation of 200 people from different gender groups under the Ministry of National Defense.

On that same occasion, General Mey Mondary further says that the workshop was held to review the gender performance of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces over the past five years and to encourage the Gender Working Group across the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to strengthen and promote the implementation of Gender mainstreaming throughout the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, building more active women's capacity.

She has said that the Ministry of National Defense has prepared a Strategic Plan for Gender Mainstreaming in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces 2016-2020. Transformation between women and men in performance, promotion, decision-making roles, enabling women soldiers to improve their status and capacity to perform core functions in the unit in response to gender equality and equity; and to Increase the better participation of women and men in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

At present, the Gender Working Group of the Ministry of National Defense, with the consideration of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Samdech Pich Sena Tea Banh, and under the leadership of Ms. Dam Darini, the gender situation in the defense sector has improved Women soldiers are given the opportunity to participate in all activities, including training, learning, seminars and activities in the units, participate in training courses at home and abroad, and are given the opportunity to be promoted according to their abilities, knowledge and skills. Incentives, awards, commendation letters, as well as equal rights to make decisions in the same role as men.
