52-Year Old Farmer Cuts Common-Law Wife’s Throat Before Hanging Himself

Pailin: 52-year old Phan Pov and his common-law-wife 57-year old Chan Kuy, both farmers went on a drinking spree at their neighbor’s house on Sunday morning, after that they attended a birthday party. The couple were both drunk and already arguing when they arrived home until it escalated to a heated one which forced the man to cut the throat of his partner with a machete, causing her to die on the spot.

Chan Kuy’s 16-year old daughter Aun Sokea has witnessed the incident and had a brawl with her stepfather because the old man tried to get rid of her too but she has managed to escaped and ran away. The crestfallen man retreated inside the bathroom where he hanged himself. Not long after, he died of cerebral hypoxia.

The incident happened around past eight in the evening on 7 November at Chamkar plantation in Dey Krahorm village, Pailin province. The family is just renting a farm and they have a house in the plantation. Her mother and stepfather are always fighting especially when the man is drunk. And physically abusing her mother.

The young teen recalls that she hid in the forest for the whole night. She has managed to ask for help the following morning.
