Public Awareness for Landmine Danger in Banteay Meanchey

Banteay Meanchey: Officials at Banteay Meanchey’s province have shared awareness to citizens to avoid landmine explosion incidents. Deputy Governor of Banteay Meanchey Ly Sary says that according to the national survey data, the province has more than 25,000 hectares of land containing landmines and explosive remnants of war, a significant burden that has left people dead and injured.

Banteay Meanchey deputy governor, Ly Sary has confirmed that in the last five years, there had been 20 incidents of landmines explosions and other remnants of war. Six have lost their lives. Senior Minister in charge of Special Mission Ly Thuch, and Governor of Banteay Meanchey Oum Reatrey has also led the, they have led a team with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre for an awareness campaign.

The team went to the main roundabout in Banteay Meanchey’s Kouk Romiet to inform citizens the dangers of landmines and unexploded ordnance. They have installed 396 billboards to educate people and prevent other accidents. Ly Sary has also advised residents not to recycle unexploded ordnance as it could cause bigger disasters.
