Japan’s Donation of 39 Vehicles is Part of a Bigger Financial Support

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhon said the delivery of 39 vehicles by the Japanese Government is part of a financial support recently signed for the Japan Socio-Economic Development Program, in which Japan had pledged 300 million yen as an aid package to help the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia.

Prak Sokhon has added that in just two months Cambodia will start its mandate to lead the ASEAN for the third time since the Kingdom has joined the regional organization in 1999. This assistance to the Ministry of Interior is important for ensuring the safety and security of the dignitaries and delegates who will be attending events related to the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia 2022 and other events. In this case, the 300 million yen will be used for acquiring technical equipment in order to strengthen Cambodia’s security and counter-terrorism capabilities.

According to his statement, Cambodia is strongly committed to working closely with other ASEAN Member States and dialogue partners, including Japan, to address economic, political and security challenges in the region. Challenges such as the adaptation of Covid-19 and the rehabilitation of social and economic impacts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has thanked the friend nation, saying Japan has always been a reliable partner for ASEAN, supporting key initiatives related to the Covid-19 epidemic, including the ASEAN Regional Medical Reserve for Public Health Emergencies and the ASEAN Comprehensive Rehabilitation Framework. Japan has also given Covid-19 vaccine through the Covax Facility. At the ASEAN-Japan Summit last week, the Prime Minister expressed Cambodia's support for Japan's request to hold the 50th ASEAN-Japan Anniversary Summit in Japan in 2023.
