PHNOM PENH: Cambodia, the Chair of ASEAN for 2022, hopes that the country’s experience and lessons learned from past tragedy and successful implementation of Win-Win policy in achieving peace and reconciliation could be useful for Myanmar to solve its crisis. Although the context and idiosyncrasies of the two nations are not exactly the same.

The Win-Win Policy refers to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party’s (CPP) strategy to successfully integrate the last Khmer Rouge stronghold in 1998, ending the three decades of civil war in Cambodia.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn says that Cambodia stands ready to help and will do its best in this endeavour as ASEAN Chair next year.

This statement from the deputy prime minister was imparted after nine ASEAN member states wrapped up the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits on Thursday, under the chairmanship of Brunei. This year, the bloc’s summits were held without Myanmar. The Chair sent an invitation but Myanmar chose not to attend.

Myanmar is a member of ASEAN family and while all respect the principle of non-interference into domestic affairs of member states, the situation in Myanmar continues to be a subject of grave concern and has negative impacts on the region, the credibility of the Association and on the people of Myanmar.
