Facebook Unveils its New Corporate Name Meta

INTERNATIONAL: Facebook Incorporated has unveiled its new name and logo at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, on Thursday , replacing its thumbs-up "Like" logo with a blue infinity shape.

Facebook's new corporate name is Meta, CEO Mark Zuckerberg reveals , in an apparent effort to recast the company's public image from battered social network to tech innovator focused on building the next generation of online interaction, known as the "metaverse.

Facebook’s CEO says the new name reflected its focus on building this new virtual realm rather than its namesake social media service. The old brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can't possibly represent everything that we're doing today, let alone in the future. The change would bring together its different apps and technologies under one new brand. But t has clarified that it would not change its corporate structure.

The metaverse, a term first coined in a dystopian novel three decades ago and now attracting buzz in Silicon Valley, refers broadly to the idea of a shared virtual environment which can be accessed by people using different devices. Facebook Inc new name reflects that over time, users will not need to use Facebook to use the company's other services. The company intends to start trading under the new stock ticker it has reserved, MVRS, on 1 December.
