Cambodian Sniffer Dogs Capable of Detecting Covid-19

Kampong Chhnang: The director general of the Cambodian Mine Action Center, Heng Ratana has confirmed that the Cambodian sniffer dogs are capable participating in the fight against Covid-19. He visited the dogs at Kampong Chhnang Provincial Mine Action Technical Institute on Wednesday where they are trained to detect the coronavirus.

Ratana says, “Khmer dog experts can research and train Covid-19 sniffing dogs successfully in this huge step." He has added that dogs will continue to undergo trainings in the coming weeks when more Covid-19 samples will be received from the University of Health Sciences.

The Covid-19 sniffing are trained to sniff at a safe distance within 10-15 seconds. Ratana claims that it will be useful tool for the government in the fight against Covid-19, especially in the early detection in crowded places such as airports, international gates and other major events. He has added, “I am very proud of the dog officers who have worked so hard to research, document and provide dog training."
