Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan Officially Announced

Phnom Penh: After being approved by Prime Minister Hun Sen on the 30 of March, the "Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan of 2021 to 2035 " has been officially announced this Wednesday by Deputy Prime Minister Oun Porn Moniroth. The master plan studies strategies to increase the attractiveness of the entire Siem Reap province, not just at Angkor Wat and its temples, but also in a variety of recreational activities, such as cultural and natural attractions.

Minister of Tourism Thong Khon said that the Master Plan is in alliance with the sustainable development strategies and the promotion of tourism in and after the Covid-19 pandemic. He hopes the guidelines will turn Siem Reap into an attractive destination, with global recognition for the conservation of its cultural and natural heritages.

Terms such as "clean, green and smart" environment are the main strategic objectives that will be set by the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan. The Royal Government aims to achieve by 2035 an increase of 10.9 million domestic tourist as well as 7.5 million international travelers.

The Master Plan will focus on high-level tourists to increase the source of income for the nation and local people. Around $6 billion is expected on profit and up to a million direct jobs created in the region.
