Sack of Ammunition Found on Battambang Border

Battambang: Battambang border guards have seized a surprise sack full of ammunition. Border security personnel were patrolling the Cambodia-Thai border on Monday afternoon when they spotted the suspicious-looking sack left near a stream. When they opened it, they were shocked by the contents.

It was five o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, when the Battambang border guards were patrolling in Thmey village in Kamrieng district’s Trang commune. It was all part of a day’s work, on the lookout for would-be migrant workers trying to cross the border into Thailand, but to their surprise, instead of catching border hoppers, they came across ammunition and empty magazines believed to be of AK-47s.

A total of 508 rounds together with 42 magazines were found. The sack’s owner or owners were nowhere to be seen. The ammunition and magazines are now in the custody of the 53rd Brigade Headquarters for further investigation. Authorities continue to search for the owner or owners of the cache.
