Another Drug Bust in Mexico

INTERNATIONAL: The Mexican Navy has seized 2.4 tons of meth and 7 kilograms of marijuana. The bust took place off the coast of Ensenada in Baja California, when authorities spotted a suspicious speedboat. Two helicopters and boat patrols were dispatched to stop it. All the confiscated drugs have been taken to the local Prosecutor's Office, which is now building a case against those arrested.

Small Plane Crash Narrowly Misses High School

A small twin-engine Cessna, headed to Yuma, Arizona has crashed into a residential neighborhood, sparking fires near a high school in San Diego County, California. The pilot and a UPS delivery driver died. Two homes and a delivery truck were destroyed, in addition to several vehicles. Neighbors managed to pull a couple in their 70s from one of the homes. The pair are now in hospital in a serious condition. Firefighters were then able to put out the blaze before it spread to other homes. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane had reported technical issues and was trying to land when it crashed. A few streets have been closed, while the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board conduct a probe into the accident.

Massive Fire Hits One of Lebanon’s Biggest Fuel Plants

And, a huge fire broke out on Monday in a fuel storage tank at the Zahrani oil facility in southern Lebanon, 50 kilometers south of Beirut. 25 fire trucks responded to scene. It took firefighters more than three hours to put out the blaze. They then cooled the surrounding tanks to prevent any flare ups or explosions. A worker says he had heard a loud bang before the fire broke out. The Zahrani facilities also include a power plant of the same name, and provide 15 percent of Lebanon’s oil. The fire is the latest disaster to hit Lebanon, where fuel shortages amid a deepening economic crisis, have forced the country's two biggest power plants to shut down over the weekend. Lebanon is struggling from an economic meltdown dubbed by the World Bank as one of the deepest depressions of modern history. Three quarters of its population have been plunged into poverty. The local currency has lost 90% of its value in the past two years.
