Fury Outslugs Wilder to Retain WBC Heavyweight Title

INTERNATIONAL: Britain’s Tyson Fury won Saturday night’s slugfest with American Deontay Wilder, earning himself an 11th round knockout to retain his WBC heavyweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Fury knocked Wilder down onto the canvas in the third round, and the American responded in kind in the fourth – twice, but Fury ultimately overwhelmed Wilder to remain undefeated.

With the win, Fury has now taken two of the rivals’ last three meetings. Fury is now hoping for a world heavyweight unification fight against Anthony Joshua, but he’s going to have to wait. Joshua has triggered his clause for a rematch against heavyweight rival Oleksandr Usyk. That fight could take place in March. Joshua lost his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts to the Ukrainian last month, but has opted to try and get them back.

If he does, that could put him on course for a bout with Fury who’s looking to be the world’s undisputed heavyweight champion.
