Storm Surge in Preah Sihanouk Kills Four Siblings

Sihanoukville: Thursday’s storm surge in Preah Sihanouk has claimed the lives of four siblings. One was drowned almost immediately, with three others reported missing. The last of their bodies was recovered in the early hours of Friday morning.

It was supposed to be a day of fun at the beach when Leng Yeung, a father of 5, went to play with his sons and daughters in the ocean, but a change in the weather brought tragedy in the form of a storm surge. 25-year-old Leng Srey Diep, 20-year-old Leng Chrouk, 16-year-old Leng Socheata and 12-year-old Leng Dao all drowned. Their father and 10-year-old brother, Leng Sochea, were lucky to be rescued.

The search for the bodies went on until 1am on Friday when Leng Dao was finally found. Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police Commissioner, Chuon Narin, says the bodies have been examined and have been handed over to the family for traditional funeral rites.
