Phnom Penh: The Phnom Penh Municipal Prosecutor's Office has decided to charge former opposition leaders, Sam Rainsy, Eng Chhay Eang, Mu Sochua, Ho Vorn and a number of as yet unidentified accomplices, on charges of conspiracy and incitement to cause serious disturbance to social security under Articles 453, 494 and 495 of the Penal Code of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The above charges, announced late on Thursday evening, relate to Sam Rainsy's appeal posted on Facebook on Tuesday 5 October. The court alleges that Rainsy is “planning to overthrow the Royal Government of Cambodia using exaggerated information, under the guise of calling for the incitement of the armed forces and the people to overthrow the legitimate Royal Government”.
A spokesman for the Phnom Penh Municipal Prosecutor's Office would like to confirm that the alleged plan to incite the people's armed forces to overthrow the government, allegedly organized by Sam Rainsy, Eng Chhay Eang, Mu Sochua, Ho Vorn and their accomplices, is a crime that “seriously affects national security”.
