Phnom Penh Governor Instructs Strict Monitoring on Pchum Ben Travelers

Phnom Penh: Phnom Penh Governor, Khuong Sreng has instructed the 14 district governors to strictly monitor and implement Covid-19 measures in the capital’s entry or exit points for the travelers during and after Pchum Ben. This is to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 in the capital, especially the Delta variant. The governor says that the Royal Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen has already spent a lot of the resources to curb the spread of the disease. He has asked the district governors to cooperate in the fight against the pandemic by implementing stringent measures.

Governor Sreng says that the district governors and relevant authorities including the Department of Cults and Religions must ensure the implementation of health safety measures in public places such as bus lanes and places where people leave and enter the capital. Bus operators are also encouraged to reduce passengers per bus to avoid possible transmission of Covid-19, especially those coming back from their hometown for Pchum Ben. He also advised to conduct rapid tests for those coming back to the capital.

The capital’s governor has also reiterated his warning towards high-risk businesses such as clubs, KTV and other businesses that continue to operate discreetly despite the ordered temporary closure. He says these places or businesses must responsibly follow the administration’s order, otherwise they will face legal action from the authority.
