INTERNATIONAL: He might be one of the most unpopular football coaches in Europe, but Barcelona’s Ronald Koeman will be remaining at the club, at least for now. He’s thanked club president, Joan Laporta, for publicly giving him a vote of confidence, even as Koeman’s squad had another dismal weekend in LaLiga.

Laporta might be eating his words after the Catalan club lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid, but he did say he was willing to give the coach time to change the club’s fortunes. Despite his boss’s backing, Koeman acknowledged that things needed to change with Barca having won just one of their last six games:

"The only thing I can say, I think it is a question for the president. We've spoken about the situation with the team. I've given him my version of how I see things at the moment. And I have hope and trust that we can get better. We know perfectly well, especially in our attack, that we are lacking. Because we have different players right now. We play as a group in the midfield with people who are midfielders. Because right now and the last few games, we haven't been able to play in the style that we want to. So, we always have to try to squeeze out everything we can from the players we have available. And once again, it's a question for the president, not for me."

Barcelona sit bottom of their Champions’ League group with two defeats from two games and are ninth in LaLiga, five points behind table-toppers Real Madrid.
