Phnom Penh Municipal Police Work to Eliminate “Fake News”

Phnom Penh: Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner, General Sor Thet, has ordered all units of the capital police service to cooperate with the media in a timely manner in an attempt to “neutralize any false information that is provocative and is being spread throughout the country”. The General has stated that what is now called “Fake News” can create chaos in society and “dishonour leaders and organisations”.

The order was made on Friday morning in a Zoom meeting with General Sor Thet, the Deputy Commissioner, the Chief of the Specialized Bureau, 14 District Police Inspectors and 105 Administrative Police Chiefs. The Deputy Commissioner for Planning read the September report, showing solutions and other challenges that have arisen, as well as the direction for October.

At the same time, the General Commissioner praised the efforts of the fire brigade who work day and night to help battle fires in the capital and surrounding districts. He added that more enforcement of traffic laws was needed, especially to reduce serious injuries and loss of life.
