PM Allows Release of 229 Confiscated Vehicles

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has fined and confiscated vehicles for overweight transportation. Now, the Royal Government will allow the release of all 229 vehicles back to their owners, in order to resume businesses. However, any vehicle that has not yet paid the fine must first pay the penalty before the release is allowed.

The confiscated vehicles are at the weighing stations of the Department of Public Works and Transport in the capital and some provinces. The decision has the approval of Prime Minister Hun Sen, and is aimed at supporting the revival of the private sector, relaxing strict measures and providing opportunities to vehicle owners, especially for the upcoming Pchum Ben holidays.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has also pointed out that although confiscated vehicles will be released for Pchum Ben, vehicle owners and transport business owners should still comply with the Law on Roads, Article 60, and The Ministry of Public Works and Transport must continue to enforce the law on overweight vehicles without exception. In addition, the Ministry must strive to disseminate information about laws and regulations to the general public for better understanding of road legislation.
