Floods Hit Hard in Banteay Meanchey

Banteay Meanchey: More than 34,000 people have been affected and a thousand families evacuated in Banteay Meanchey as floods wreak havoc across the province. The Banteay Meanchey Provincial Administration says 5 out of 9 cities in the province have been hit by the floods, with 2,500 people affected and 617 families evacuated in Serey Sophorn City alone.

126 families have been rescued at Mongkul Borey. In Poipet, 182 families have been evacuated and thousands of hectares of crops have been swamped in O’Chrov and Preah New Preah districts.

On Wednesday, Minister of National Defence, Tea Banh, called on people affected by the floods to remain vigilant and contact the authorities in case they needed emergency assistance. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Cambodia will be affected by more heavy weather over the course of the next week.
