Phnom Penh: On the occasion of the 41st World Tourism Day, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as well as World Tourism Organization Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, have highlighted eco-tourism as the way to restore tourism growth, with the two heads of the international organizations recommending that the development of world tourism after the Covid-19 crisis should be for the benefit of persons with disabilities as well as women. This was highlighted in a message celebrating World Tourism Day, which was broadcast by the Ministry of Tourism.

In the face of the devastating impact on hundreds of millions of people affected by the pandemic, the two international bodies outlined their vision for sustainable tourism development towards resilience and sustainable growth.

On World Tourism Day, Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon, also announced the recruitment of private tourism officials and students to receive 50 scholarships provided by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to Cambodia as a program to help restart tourism. The 50 scholarships focus on: Business Strategy; Accounting and Finance; Digital Marketing; Operations Management and the fundamentals of Innovation and Digital Transformation.
