PM to Address UN General Assembly on Saturday

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen will deliver his national speech during the General Debate of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday 25 September. The Prime Minister’s office says the theme will be “Building resilience through hope - to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respects the right of people and revitalise the United Nations".

The Prime Minister’s remarks will focus on the post pandemic socio-economic recovery as the top priority, the continued pressure on international peace and security and the importance of multilateralism and rules-based international cooperation. He will also highlight Cambodia's successful national vaccination campaign, its post pandemic economic recovery plans for “resilient and sustainable development”, efforts to address climate change and the country’s Chairmanships of ASEM13 in November and ASEAN in 2022.

It is not known exactly when the Prime Minister will speak on Saturday but is likely to be during the UN General Assembly’s morning session that begins in New York at 9am, local time. New York is 11 hours behind Phnom Penh so the Prime Minister’s address is likely to be made late on Saturday evening.
