Police Investigating Fatal Truck Accident

Phnom Penh: A truck driver has been arrested following this week’s accident in Kandal that claimed the lives of three people. Seven other people have been hospitalised and all are in a serious condition. There was another truck accident on Wednesday in Sihanokville,But fortunately no-one was killed.

Police are investigating claims of reckless driving. The driver of this truck allegedly collided with a motorcycle and ploughed into a shop at Kandal’s Prek Tamak Bridge. The driver has been identified as 23-year-old Phorn Makara. He was allegedly speeding across the bridge when he lost control and collided with the moto that was carrying four passengers. The moto driver, his 47-year-old wife and their 12-year-old son, were killed.

Their 7-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries. After hitting the moto, the truck then rammed into a fruit vendor’s stall, severely injuring a further six people. On Wednesday, five people were hospitalised in Sihanoukville after another accident involving a speeding truck. It collided with other vehicles and then crashed into a house in Village 2, Sangkat 2. Those hospitalised are said to be in a stable condition.
