Bayern’s Lewandowski Awarded “Golden Shoe”

INTERNATIONAL: Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is this year’s recipient of the "European Golden Shoe". It recognizes his achievements as the continent's top goal scorer in the 2020-21 season. Robert Lewandowski was all smiles as he was presented with the award in his home town. He’s scored a record-breaking 41 goals in the Bundesliga, and that’s even after missing five games due to injury.

Lewandowski is only the second player based in Germany to receive the award after Gerd Mueller:

"And I must honestly say. No matter where you come from, no matter how small you are. No matter how stupid you are, you always have to believe in the great achievement. I know how much hard work I had to do, a, where I was smaller, even though I've gotten a little bit older. Always work hard because clearly the success and the great achievement has to match with the work."

The European Golden Shoe has been awarded by European sports media since 1968 for the top goal scorer of the season. It has been won by many famous players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Francesco Totti.
