NCDM Getting Ready for Disaster Response this Rainy Season

Phnom Penh: The National Committee for Disaster Management is preparing for emergency response - especially flooding problems during this rainy season. Cambodia has been experiencing flooding across the country due to torrential rain. The kingdom’s capital has areas being submerged with water overflowing from canals, as well as in different provinces. One person was killed in Preah Sihanouk province on 24 August after being carried away by a flooded canal, swept off his motorbike.

NCDM officials have met on Wednesday discussing the procedures for emergency response while making a follow-up on the water level along the Mekong River. The group has prepared 1,206 vehicles, 179 boats, and 320 speedy boats for emergency rescue. Prime Minister Hun Sen has provided worth $6.4 to the team which will be used for the rescue mission.

NCDM First Vice President, Kun Kim has called on all stakeholders to share information of disaster-affected situation specifically and timely for emergency response operation. He has emphasized how important is a rapid emergency response to the lives of the people in the kingdom in times of disaster. He recalled that at least 42 people were killed last year due to severe flooding and over 175,000 families were affected.
