Meetings Underway to Set New Minimum Wage for Garment Workers

Phnom Penh: The annual round of meetings to determine the minimum wage for garment workers has begun. The National Assembly Council met on Tuesday morning. Meetings with industry sector stakeholders, including unions, will be held on 14, 21 and 28 September.

The Minimum Wage Meetings include government representatives, employers and union representatives to discuss the lowest level wages can be for the following 12 months. In the event that employees and unions are not in agreement, they are then asked to vote on government's proposed minimum wage. The minimum wage for the garment and shoe production sector is currently $192 a month.
