Phnom Penh, 20 October – Former Prime Minister and current President of the Cambodian Senate, Techo Hun Sen, expressed strong disapproval on social media today regarding recent acts of anti-Thai protests led by a group headed by Mr. K01. In a post addressing the situation, Hun Sen condemned the actions, which included burning Thai goods and insulting Thai merchants, as inappropriate and excessive.
Techo Hun Sen’s statement came after he viewed a video lasting over eight minutes showing members of the group burning Thai products and verbally abusing vendors selling Thai merchandise. He described these acts as beyond patriotism and labeled them as a form of fanaticism that damages Cambodia’s national dignity.
“Many Cambodians—nearly 99 percent—support boycotting Thai goods, whether they are in the country or abroad,” Techo Hun Sen stated. “However, the question remains: what should traders do with their leftover Thai products? Should they burn them or find a way to sell them and recover their capital?”
He suggested a practical alternative, urging the group to consider purchasing leftover goods as animal feed if they have funds to do so, instead of resorting to destruction. “If there is no demand for these goods among people, it is better to let animals eat them rather than burn or waste them,” he added.
Techo Hun Sen called on Mr. K01 and his followers to immediately cease what he described as "crazy activity" and to instead promote values of culture, morality, virtue, and national dignity. He emphasized that actions promoting patriotism should be balanced with respect and rationality, ensuring they reflect Cambodia’s proud cultural heritage.
In conclusion, President of the Cambodian Senate, Techo Hun Sen urged all Cambodians to engage in efforts that uphold the country’s honor through peaceful, constructive, and dignified actions, especially amid ongoing tensions and disputes.
