GENEVA  — October 20, 2025  — The Delegation of Cambodia to the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva issued a strong statement today rejecting a false and misleading report published by the Thai newspaper The Nation.

The report, titled “Team Thailand reports Cambodia intensifying attacks on Thailand,” was published on October 19 and accused Cambodia of allegedly attacking Thailand at various international forums and misusing the IPU platform. The Cambodian delegation categorically dismissed these claims as a “gross distortion of facts” and an unfounded attempt to provoke tensions.

In their statement, the Cambodian spokesperson of the delegation emphasized that during meetings at ASEAN+3, the Asia-Pacific Group, and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Cambodian delegation conducted itself with dignity, restraint, and respect for all participating members. They reaffirmed that Cambodia's representatives adhered to the principles of the IPU, ASEAN, and international parliamentary diplomacy.

The delegation clarified that Cambodia’s official statement did not oppose Thailand’s draft resolution; rather, Cambodia requested only that the proposal be reviewed and refined to better align with the IPU’s core principles of impartiality, neutrality, and constructive dialogue.

The Cambodian spokesperson expressed regret over the publication of what they called a “sensational and unfounded story,” which they said risks inciting hostility and misinforming the public. They emphasized that such reports undermine efforts toward regional peace and mutual understanding, and do not reflect the spirit of friendship between Thailand and Cambodia.

“Cambodia strongly believes that truth and fairness must prevail,” the statement read. The delegation maintained that its actions have been guided by honesty, transparency, and shared ASEAN values. It also criticized the report’s authors for “deliberately distorting events,” which they argued reflects a lack of confidence and accountability from those seeking to assign blame instead of fostering cooperation.

The delegation reaffirmed Cambodia’s respect for the IPU and expressed confidence in the Assembly’s ability to discern factual information from fabrication. Cambodia reiterated its commitment to working constructively with all delegations, including Thailand’s, to promote regional stability, dialogue, and sustainable development.

Finally, Cambodia urged all parties to refrain from spreading misinformation and to uphold the principles of professionalism, fairness, and mutual respect—cornerstones of effective parliamentary diplomacy. The delegation concluded that “truth does not fear scrutiny,” and its stance remains rooted in integrity and transparency.
