Cambodia’s Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation Denies Misleading Reports Regarding MoU with South Korea

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 19, 2025 — The Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) issued a formal press statement today condemning recent misleading and unethical reporting by "The Nation Thailand" concerning the MoU signed between Cambodia’s MISTI and South Korea’s Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI).

The statement, released in Phnom Penh, strongly rejects the article titled “Seoul halts water-management support project in Cambodia,” published on October 19, 2025. MISTI emphasizes that the publication aims to tarnish Cambodia’s reputation and damage the ongoing collaboration with South Korea, which is based on mutual trust, transparency, and the shared goal of advancing science, technology, and sustainable development.

MISTI clarifies that the cooperation with STEPI remains active and unaffected. The ministry reiterated its commitment to constructive, ongoing collaboration in areas including science, technology, innovation, and the Industrial Innovation Cluster study, assuring that all joint activities and communication channels are proceeding normally and positively.

Furthermore, MISTI condemns "The Nation Thailand" for misrepresenting the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), claiming it falsely implied that the collaboration was affected by the publication. The ministry states that the report is an act of deliberate misinformation designed to mislead the public and tarnish Cambodia’s international reputation on scientific and technological cooperation.

The ministry urges media outlets and the public to verify information through credible and official channels, emphasizing the importance of transparency and integrity in reporting. MISTI reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a close and trusted partnership with South Korea, dedicated to mutual development and sustainable growth.

The full statement underscores Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to scientific progress, regional cooperation, and the responsible dissemination of accurate information, reiterating that misinformation attempts will not undermine the government’s diplomatic efforts.

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation remains dedicated to transparent cooperation and invites all stakeholders to promote factual, responsible journalism that fosters mutual understanding and progress.
