Cambodia’s National Assembly Issues Official Statement on Regional Relationships and International Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 19, 2025 — The National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued an official statement clarifying recent international diplomatic engagements and reaffirming Cambodia’s stance on sovereignty and regional stability.

The statement, released on October 19, 2025, explained that a delegation of the Cambodian Parliament participated in several high-level meetings on October 19. These included the ASEAN+3 meeting in Singapore, led by the Head of the Singaporean Parliamentary Delegation, and the Asia-Pacific Group meeting, headed by the Head of the Chinese Parliamentary Delegation, during the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the Geneva meetings, H.E. Nguy Chanphal, representing Cambodia’s Parliamentary Delegation, demonstrated a friendly attitude toward the Thai delegation, especially H.E. Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of the Thai National Assembly. The Cambodian representatives greeted the Thai delegation with handshakes and courtesy, reflecting the amicable diplomatic relations.

The assembly also addressed recent media reports alleging Cambodia’s participation in actions undermining its sovereignty. The statement explicitly rejects claims made by Thailand’s The Nations, which accused Cambodia of using various forums to damage Thailand’s reputation on the international stage. Cambodia emphasized that it remains committed to maintaining an independent, sovereign, and territorially intact state since its independence.

Furthermore, the Cambodian Parliament expressed support for the draft emergency item titled “Strengthening Parliamentary Action Against Transnational Cybercrime While Upholding Humanitarian Principles,” which Thailand had proposed for inclusion in the IPU General Assembly. Cambodia offered constructive amendments to improve the content of this resolution, advocating for more comprehensive and effective measures.

The statement concluded by affirming Cambodia’s dedication to regional cooperation. It reiterated that Cambodia will continue to play an active role within the international community, particularly the ASEAN bloc, emphasizing solidarity, cooperation, and respect for international law. The friendship between Cambodia and Thailand, the statement noted, must be rooted in mutual understanding, respect, and equality—elements essential for long-lasting peace and regional stability.
