PHNOM PENH, Oct. 19, 2025 — Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, issued a statement today to clarify recent developments regarding border discussions between Cambodia and Thailand.
The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia announced that on October 19, 2025, the 4th and 5th Military Regions of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces sent formal letters to the Thai 1st and 2nd Army Areas concerning upcoming Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) meetings. The Cambodian side expressed its willingness to proceed with the scheduled discussions but requested a postponement until after the conclusion of the 2nd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 20 to 23, 2025.
Following the GBC meeting’s completion, Cambodia’s military regions will resume dialogue with Thailand to organize the RBC meetings. The Cambodian ministry emphasized that these discussions will leverage the outcomes of the GBC to promote cooperation, ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, and work towards peace and stability between the two nations.
“Our goal remains to facilitate a swift return to normalcy and strengthen bilateral relations through practical cooperation,” Lt. Gen. Socheata said. She underscored Cambodia’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution, reaffirming the country’s stance on maintaining regional stability.
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to foster dialogue and peace in the border area, following recent tensions. Both sides have emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in achieving long-term stability.
