South Korea Denies Claims of Thai Politicians’ Involvement in Cambodian Scam Ring

BANGKOK, Oct. 19, 2025 — The Nation Thailand reports that a Thai Facebook page, “Than Pao,” has published unverified claims alleging that seven Thai politicians are involved in call-center and scam syndicates operating in Cambodia.

According to the report, “Than Pao” cited a statement attributed to the South Korean Prime Minister, claiming that a list of Thai politicians linked to these criminal groups has already been compiled. The post further suggested that this list is in the hands of journalists and has fueled speculation about the identities of the politicians involved and potential investigations.

In response, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand issued a firm rebuttal. Referring to a Thansettakij article dated October 19, the embassy clarified that “the Korean Prime Minister stated that seven Thai politicians are involved in a Cambodian scam case.” It emphasized, “The Government of the Republic of Korea makes it clear that such claims are completely false and baseless. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea has not made any comments of the sort.

The embassy also expressed strong regret over the spread of false information, stating that it will take necessary measures, including legal action, to counteract the dissemination of fake news.
