Cambodia Reports Thai Military Fire Incidents During Ceasefire Period

PHNOM PENH – The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia announced Saturday that Thai military forces initiated two rounds of firing at Cambodian positions near the An Seh area in Preah Vihear province, despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.

Her Excellency Maly Socheata, the ministry’s spokeswoman, stated that the incidents occurred between 11:52 a.m. and 12:46 p.m., with the first round taking place from 11:52 a.m. to 12:22 p.m., and the second from 12:25 p.m. to 12:46 p.m. During these exchanges, Cambodian forces maintained strict restraint and did not retaliate, in line with their commitment to the ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire, which entered into force at 12:01 a.m. on July 28, 2025, was brokered in a special meeting in Putrajaya, involving international leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and representatives from China. As of Saturday, it has been 60 days since the agreement’s implementation.

According to reports from the frontline, Cambodian forces observed a period of calm from 12:46 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., despite artillery and small arms fire from Thai forces prior to this lull. The shelling damaged several buildings but did not result in casualties.

Cambodian military officials reaffirm their commitment to the ceasefire, emphasizing ongoing vigilance and readiness to defend national sovereignty. The ministry also called on Thailand to honor the ceasefire in good faith and support efforts to restore stability and peace along the border.

Both nations continue to engage in diplomatic and military channels, seeking a peaceful resolution to ongoing border tensions. Cambodia expressed its readiness to cooperate at all levels to ensure lasting peace and urged Thailand to uphold the ceasefire agreement constructively.
