Trump thanks Cambodia’s leader for peace efforts, Nominates him for Nobel

WASHINGTON  — President Donald Trump has thanked Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet for his leadership and for nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a letter dated Aug. 20, 2025, Trump praised Cambodia’s history and culture and commended Hun Manet for promoting peace and stability in the region. The president also highlighted his own involvement in efforts to end fighting between Cambodia and Thailand.

Cambodia has a long and storied history and culture,’’ Trump wrote. “You are a strong leader who values human life and appreciates peace. I am proud to be part of the cease-fire deal that ended the fighting and saved thousands of lives.’’

The letter underscores the United States’ interest in regional stability and highlights the importance of diplomatic relations with Cambodia.

The White House confirmed the authenticity of the letter, which also included Trump’s signature. It comes at a time of increased engagement between the two nations amid regional tensions.

In a signed note at the end of the letter, Trump expressed hope for future cooperation to foster prosperity and peace in Southeast Asia.
