Phnom Penh, August 10, 2025 — In a concerted diplomatic effort, military attachés from nine countries set out today to evaluate the status of the current ceasefire in Cambodia and the situation of displaced populations. Representatives from Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, France, Japan, South Korea, Laos, and Vietnam, totaling 14 officials, departed Phnom Penh for Oddar Meanchey Province.

The inspection mission, headed by Lieutenant General Phat Vibolsopheak, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Politics and Foreign Affairs, and Director of the International Relations Department at Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, reflects a strategic initiative to ensure transparency and accountability in the ceasefire’s implementation.

This diplomatic mission follows the recent Special and Extraordinary Meetings of the Cambodia-Thailand General Boundary Committee (GBC) on August 7, 2025. These meetings corroborated the directives agreed upon in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on July 28, 2025, aiming to cement the ceasefire terms.

Cambodia has affirmed its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and robust cooperation with Thailand, ASEAN nations, and international stakeholders. This alignment with international standards, including the UN and ASEAN Charters, underscores the region’s united front towards sustainable peace and effective conflict management.
