Japan Welcomes Cambodia-Thailand Ceasefire Mechanism Agreement

Tokyo, August 8, 2025 — Japan has expressed strong support for the recent agreement reached between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand regarding the implementation of a ceasefire mechanism. The announcement was made by Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi IWAYA in a statement issued today.

The agreement, finalized during a meeting held in Malaysia, outlines a framework for the cessation of all hostilities and attacks between the two neighboring countries. Minister IWAYA commended the diplomatic efforts of both Cambodia and Thailand, emphasizing that their progress toward de-escalation is critical for regional stability.

Japan highlighted the importance of robust bilateral relations between Cambodia and Thailand for the stability and development of Southeast Asia. The Japanese government reaffirmed its ongoing support and efforts to encourage both nations to de-escalate tensions and uphold the ceasefire.
