General Tea Seiha Meets with Malaysian Armed Forces Chief to Strengthen Regional Peace Efforts
Malaysia, August 5, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, General Tea Seiha, held a bilateral meeting with General Mohamed Nizam, Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces, along with their respective delegations, to discuss regional security and peacebuilding efforts, particularly in relation to the Cambodia–Thailand border situation.
During the meeting, the Malaysian side reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. General Nizam emphasized the urgent need to develop a Terms of Reference (TOR) and to establish the ASEAN Monitoring Team (AMT) as a credible and effective mechanism to monitor compliance, foster mutual trust, and ensure the timely and sustainable restoration of peace along the shared border.
General Nizam also delivered a poignant message, stating:
“Peace is expensive, life is precious, time is of the essence.”
This message echoes the guidance of Samdech Thipadei, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, who has underscored:
“Every day, every hour, and every minute we spend in negotiation can save the lives of our soldiers and our people. The sooner we achieve peace, the better.”
Meanwhile, over the past three days, the General Border Committee (GBC) Secretariat teams of Cambodia and Thailand have engaged in constructive and positive discussions. Several key proposals from the Cambodian side have been accepted by their Thai counterparts, while Cambodia has also welcomed important contributions from the Thai delegation, reflecting a spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding.
