TOP NEWS: Cambodia Condemns Thai Forces’ Entry into Sovereign Territory, Calls for International Support

Phnom Penh, August 4, 2025 — The Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia has issued an official statement condemning the action of Thai armed forces, who entered Cambodian sovereign territory in the An Ses area this morning at 11 a.m. Accompanying their movement were heavy machinery, including excavators, and the forces proceeded to lay barbed wire within the disputed region, despite strong objections from Cambodian military personnel.

Cambodia emphasizes that this act constitutes a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and significantly threatens regional peace and security. The incident follows Cambodia’s recent efforts to affirm the sovereignty of the affected areas, which included facilitating a visit by foreign military attachés on July 31, 2025. During this visit, officials clearly confirmed that the An Ses area is part of Cambodia’s territory, underscoring the seriousness of Thailand’s recent actions.

Cambodia calls on the international community, especially partner countries that have supported the peace process and the implementation of the ceasefire, to intervene and demand that Thailand immediately cease its aggressive activities. The Cambodian government insists that Thailand must adhere to international law and respect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
