Government Spokesperson Urges National Unity, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace in Border Dispute

PHNOM PENH – Government Spokesperson Pen Bona delivered an official statement on August 2, 2025, at a press briefing regarding the ongoing implementation of the immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand.

During the 4:00 p.m. briefing, Pen Bona expressed appreciation for the unity and solidarity demonstrated by Cambodian citizens amid recent tensions, while also calling for restraint and responsibility in expressing patriotism.

“As the Royal Government Spokesperson, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all citizens who have stood in defense of our nation, demonstrating unwavering unity in protecting our sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the dignity of the Khmer people,” he said. “This collective spirit is a powerful and unbreakable force. At the same time, I urge everyone to uphold our national dignity and ensure that our patriotism does not cross into extremism.”

He emphasized that Cambodia, as a peace-loving nation, remains committed to international law and multilateralism.

“We must make clear to the international community that our actions are solely defensive—intended to protect our sovereignty and national honor against any violations or insults,” he stated. “Cambodians are nationalists—deeply devoted to our nation—but we reject extremism in all forms.”

Pen Bona also called on the public to place their confidence in the Royal Government, led by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, and in the leadership of top national institutions, including Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

“Our leaders, along with the armed forces, are fully committed to preserving peace and safeguarding our territorial integrity in accordance with international law and the principles of multilateralism,” he said.
