PHNOM PENH, August 2, 2025 — The Ministry of Information has issued a strong warning against the spread of misinformation and extremist rhetoric on social media, particularly content related to Cambodia’s armed forces and the current border situation with Thailand.

Ministry spokesperson and Under Secretary of State Tep Asnarith said officials have continued to observe misleading posts, including manipulated images and false claims targeting the military.

“These actions have created public confusion, undermined national security, and endangered the lives of soldiers—especially at a time when the government is working to uphold the ceasefire and manage the Cambodia–Thailand border situation through peaceful means,” he said.

The ministry also raised concerns about the circulation of offensive and unethical content, including racially discriminatory remarks and defamatory statements against foreign products and governments. Such behavior, it warned, could inflame tensions and disrupt public order.

Reiterating earlier advisories, the ministry called on both professional and citizen journalists to adhere to media ethics and refrain from sharing unverified or inflammatory content. Social media users and content creators were also urged to act with responsibility, integrity, and an understanding of the legal consequences of their online activity.

While patriotic expression is welcomed, the ministry cautioned against extremist nationalism that could escalate tensions or hinder diplomatic efforts.

“Such behavior does not serve the nation—it worsens the situation,” the ministry stated.

It further emphasized that legal action would be taken against individuals or entities who violate Cambodia’s press laws or incite unrest through digital platforms.
