Cambodia and Thailand Engage in High-Level Military Meetings Amid Ceasefire Implementation

Kbal Spean, Banteay Meanchey — July 29, 2025 — Military leaders from Cambodia and Thailand convened early Monday morning as part of ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions along their shared border.

Since 7 a.m. this morning, Cambodian Army officials from Region 5 have met with their Thai counterparts from Region 1 at Kbal Spean in Banteay Meanchey Province. The talks are part of a series of strategic meetings aimed at reinforcing the recent ceasefire.

A virtual bilateral discussion is scheduled for 9 a.m., involving Cambodia’s Region 3 representatives and their Thai counterparts in Trat and Chanthaburi provinces. Additionally, a mid-morning meeting at 10 a.m. will see Cambodian Region 4 officials, led by Lt. Gen. Pov Heng, engage with Thai Region 2 leaders under the command of Major General Boonsin Phadklang.

The ceasefire officially commenced at midnight on July 28, following an emergency summit held in Malaysia on Sunday night. The high-level talks were initiated by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim acting as facilitator. The negotiations were attended by representatives from the United States and China, indicating international interest in regional stability.

This diplomatic effort aims to cement the ceasefire and reduce hostilities that have resulted in several days of armed clashes along the border. Both nations have expressed commitments to restoring peace and stability in the region through ongoing dialogue and military cooperation.
