Techo Hun Sen Commends Trump Initiative That Saved Thousands of Lives During Cambodia-Thailand Conflict

Phnom Penh, July 29, 2025 — Former Prime Minister and current Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has publicly lauded the remarkable initiative by Former U.S. President Donald Trump, highlighting its profound impact on saving tens of thousands of lives amid the Cambodia–Thailand war.

In a social media post this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his deep gratitude to President Trump for his visionary leadership in establishing a ceasefire and fostering peace between Cambodia and Thailand. He emphasized that this initiative was a significant milestone in the history of regional stability, preventing widespread loss of life and paving the way for future reconciliation.

"First of all, I would like to thank His Excellency President Donald Trump for his visionary effort in creating a ceasefire and promoting peace between Cambodia and Thailand," he stated. "This achievement has saved countless lives and contributed to regional stability."

He also acknowledged the crucial role played by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in facilitating the peace process, including organizing the meeting venue for peace talks. "I also want to thank His Excellency Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his support in organizing the venue and helping facilitate this ceasefire agreement," he added.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen further extended his appreciation to China and other friendly nations for their ongoing support and endorsement of the peace initiative. "Our Chinese friends and all friendly countries that support this ceasefire are also highly appreciated," he said.

Expressing hope for a sustained peace, the Cambodian leader commended the steadfast support of the people of Cambodia and Thailand, as well as their armed forces. "I also wish to thank the people and the armed forces of both nations for their unwavering support of this peace process," he concluded.

The ceasefire agreement, initiated through international diplomacy, has resulted in positive and effective outcomes, significantly de-escalating tensions and laying the groundwork for continued peace and cooperation in the region.
