Secretary Rubio Calls for Immediate De-escalation in Cambodia-Thailand Border Dispute

Phnom Penh-July 27, 2025-In a diplomatic effort to address escalating tensions, Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a phone call with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, according to a statement from U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

During the call, Secretary Rubio urged the Cambodian government to immediately de-escalate the ongoing border dispute with Thailand and to agree to a ceasefire. He emphasized the importance of halting hostilities to restore peace and regional stability.

Secretary Rubio also reiterated President Donald Trump’s strong desire for peaceful resolution and stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire to prevent further conflict. The United States expressed its readiness to facilitate future diplomatic discussions between Cambodia and Thailand to help facilitate a lasting resolution.

This call highlights ongoing U.S. efforts to promote stability in Southeast Asia amid regional tensions. The State Department indicated that diplomatic engagement will continue to support peace between the two nations.
