TOP NEWS: Cambodian Prime Minister Confirms President Donald Trump Ceasefire Agreement with Thailand
Phnom Penh, July 26, 2025 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed on Saturday night that he had a phone discussion with former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the ongoing armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border, resulting in a ceasefire agreement.
In a statement released on his social media, Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that Trump expressed his desire to see an immediate ceasefire and peace between Cambodia and Thailand, an offer that Cambodia accepted. "In response, I made it clear to Honorable President Donald Trump that Cambodia agreed with the proposal for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between the two armed forces," PM Hun Manet wrote. He added that this position had been previously conveyed to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current rotating Chair of ASEAN, on July 24.
Following his conversation with Phumtham Wechayachai, the acting Prime Minister of Thailand, Trump reportedly relayed positive news to PM Hun Manet that the Thai side also agreed to the ceasefire proposal. "This is really great news for the soldiers and people of both countries," PM Hun Manet noted, expressing hope that the Thai side would not reverse its position, as he claimed occurred previously with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's coordination efforts on July 24.
PM Hun Manet has assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn to discuss implementation of the ceasefire with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and to coordinate with the Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs. The goal is to quickly implement the agreed principles to prevent further casualties.
PM Hun Manet thanked Trump for his initiative and mediation, adding that "This excellent outcome will truly help protect the lives of many soldiers and civilians that could have been lost or injured in the fighting, and will help hundreds of thousands of refugees return to their villages to continue their daily lives in a safe and peaceful manner."
The confirmation from Prime Minister Hun Manet marks a significant development in the ongoing border conflict.
