Samdech Techo Hun Sen Praises Thai Crackdown on Cybercrime, Calls for Investigation of Thaksin

Phnom Penh, July 8, 2025 — Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen commended the Thai authorities for their recent efforts to combat online crimes within Thailand, describing the move as a positive step in regional security. In a social media statement today, Samdech Techo Hun Sen pointed out that Thailand's crackdown effectively "drops a rock on its own foot," implying that previous inaction had allowed cybercriminal activities to flourish unchecked.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his sincere congratulations to Thai law enforcement agencies and authorities for their commitment to dismantling online crime networks. He emphasized that these illegal activities, which have long been a problem along the Thai border and have impacted Cambodia, are now being addressed more decisively.

"This dismantling of online crime networks should have been undertaken long ago, rather than delayed," Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated. "For too long, such activities have caused numerous issues for Cambodia, especially with crimes originating from Thai territory along the border."

The Cambodian leader also addressed recent commentary surrounding the investigation into Kok An, a prominent figure linked to online disputes. Several Thai officials, media outlets, and members of the public have speculated that the investigation was influenced by Kok An’s alleged close ties to Samdech Techo Hun Sen. In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen challenged critics to investigate Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Thai Prime Minister, asserting their close relationship.

"Since Thaksin is extremely close to me—so close that he even has a reserved room at my residence—perhaps the Thai court should also investigate him," Samdech Techo Hun Sen said. He challenged, "Let’s see if the Thai court dares to open an investigation into Thaksin or not?"
