
Xi Jinping Honors Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk as Key Advocate of China-Cambodia Friendship
PHNOM PENH, April 17 — Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk at the Royal Palace on Thursday, recognizing her as a pivotal figure in promoting the enduring friendship between China and Cambodia.
During the meeting, Xi praised the Queen Mother's longstanding affection for the Chinese people and announced that she is to be awarded the Friendship Medal of the People's Republic of China. He emphasized her importance in fostering bilateral relations and referred to China as her "second home," inviting her to visit anytime.
Reflecting on history, Xi acknowledged the vital role played by the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk in cementing China-Cambodia ties. He noted that together with the elder generation of Chinese leaders, King Sihanouk forged a robust and enduring relationship between the two nations. "We will always remember the historic contributions he made," Xi remarked.
In response, Queen Mother Monineath expressed her appreciation for Xi Jinping, calling him the "greatest friend of Cambodia." She voiced her pleasure in witnessing the ongoing consolidation and development of the friendship established by previous leaders. The Queen Mother expressed hope that the "ironclad friendship" between the two countries will continue to deepen.
