China and Cambodia Forge Stronger Ties to Build 'All-Weather Community' for Future Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, April 17--Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met on Thursday to solidify their partnership and announced plans to establish an all-weather China-Cambodia community with a shared future, designating 2025 as the China-Cambodia Year of Tourism.

In his remarks, Xi emphasized the longstanding and robust friendship between the two nations, highlighting that this partnership remains resilient despite global changes. He stated, "The deepening of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future aligns with the fundamental interests of both peoples."

Xi pledged continued support for Cambodia's development, reinforcing the Cambodian government's governance efforts and encouraging the nation to enhance its influence in international and regional matters. He called for increased political mutual trust, expanded cooperation, and initiatives to improve security and cultural exchanges.

The Chinese President outlined plans to maximize the effectiveness of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee and enhance strategic dialogues between the two countries' foreign and defense ministers. Xi also called for collective efforts to tackle online gambling and telecom fraud to maintain regional stability.

Highlighting economic cooperation, Xi expressed China's commitment to welcoming more Cambodian agricultural products and urged Chinese enterprises to invest in Cambodia. Additionally, he reaffirmed China's dedication to educational exchanges and government scholarships aimed at fostering closer ties between the youth of both nations.

For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet hailed the significance of Xi's visit in strengthening political trust and advancing the construction of an all-weather community. He expressed gratitude for China's unwavering support of Cambodia's development and emphasized Cambodia's commitment to the one-China policy, as well as its desire to fortify cooperation in trade, investment, and infrastructure.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also acknowledged the reciprocal benefits of their relationship, underscoring Cambodia's readiness to combat online gambling and collaborate in areas like education and culture. He commended China's role in promoting stability amid global uncertainties and reiterated his country's eagerness to coordinate efforts to safeguard shared interests.

Following the meeting, the leaders signed over 30 bilateral cooperation documents covering various sectors, including supply chain cooperation, artificial intelligence, and health care initiatives, further cementing the foundation for future collaboration.
