Putin Agrees to 30-Day Pause in Attacks on Power Plants but Rejects Full Ceasefire in Ukraine

International: Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to a temporary pause in attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure but has rejected a full 30-day ceasefire proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump as a step toward a permanent peace deal, Russia’s TASS news agency reported.

Ukrainian officials have expressed support for the partial ceasefire, which would require both Russia and Ukraine to halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure for one month.

Military analysts suggest Putin’s refusal to accept a broader ceasefire may be a strategic move to buy time as Russian forces continue their offensive in eastern Ukraine.

White House officials stated that peace talks would begin soon after a phone call between Trump and Putin on Tuesday. However, it remains unclear whether Ukrainian representatives will be included in the discussions.

The Kremlin confirmed that Putin had ordered the Russian military to halt strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities after reaching an agreement with Trump.
